Ask any of our toddlers about their favorite part of the day and you'll hear the same answer: "Outside!" Children are wired to move, and the playground is where some of the most important learning happens.
Balance, courage, and calm
Climbing builds gross-motor strength and spatial judgment. Chasing bubbles teaches turn-taking. And there is solid evidence that time in green spaces helps young children regulate big emotions — fresh air genuinely resets a cranky afternoon.
How we do it daily
- Two outdoor sessions minimum — morning and afternoon, in almost all weather.
- Risk within reach: low climbers and trike paths that challenge without danger.
- Nature as teacher: bug hunts, puddle science, and our little vegetable garden.
Try it at home
You don't need a big yard. A sidewalk, a ball, and twenty unhurried minutes will do. Follow your child's lead, narrate what you see, and resist the urge to direct — the learning is in the exploring.
